CMAAS Associate FS – Quantitative Services - PwC

Location: Amsterdam
Employment: Full-time
As an Associate in our team, you will support clients in their risk modelling efforts.

PwC’s Financial Services (“FS”) team within the Capital Markets & Accounting Advisory Services (“CMAAS”) business unit provides consulting services to financial institutions in the risk and regulation domain. This creates interesting positions for risk professionals with quantitative backgrounds acting as risk modelling advisors that could also assist on other regulatory (non-modelling) projects and financial instruments valuation projects.

To continue the successful growth of our team, we are looking for a new colleague who is interested in risk modelling to focus on model development, model validation and quantitative analysis for our clients.

You are enthusiastic about the opportunity to join our practice and to contribute to its success. You have a strong interest in risk management, and you are able to connect quantitative capabilities, regulatory requirements, risk frameworks and accounting standards. In addition:

  • You hold a Master’s degree in a quantitative field, such as Econometrics, Mathematics, and Physics;
  • You have a minimum of professional working experience;
  • You are fluent in at least one of the following languages: R, Python, SAS, and Matlab;
  • You are able to articulate your thoughts and ideas to colleagues with less experience in your area of expertise;
  • You are a team player and would like to work in an international and inclusive team and you contribute towards a pleasant working atmosphere;
  • You have an entrepreneurial mindset that allows you to contribute towards the expansion of our services; and
  • You are fluent in English (both written and spoken), knowledge of Dutch is an asset.

The job

As an Associate in our team, you will support clients in their risk modelling efforts, examples of typical engagements include: i. providing model development and implementation support, ii. support in ensuring model compliance with prudential regulation (i.e. CRR) and/or IFRS 9, and iii. Support with model validation procedures. The projects you will be involved in will span across regulatory and technical accounting engagements (e.g. A-IRB modelling, Stress Testing and IFRS 9 Expected Credit Loss Modelling).  You may also be assisting on other regulatory (non-modelling) projects and financial instruments valuation projects.

The job includes statistical programming and handling/processing of big data sets, for which you will need to have experience in coding. The programming language in which the models need to be developed or validated will depend on the clients’ needs, therefore, it is essential that you are comfortable in at least one language and that you are willing and able to learn/adapt to other languages as necessary.

We are looking for more than just analytical skills. You will work in a business unit of specialists with different backgrounds and will be an advisor to the client, who will rely on your technical expertise. You therefore need to be able to break down complex problems and explain these in plain non-technical language. Both verbal and written communication skills are of high importance for this position. This requires a structured way of working and good documentation skills.

Our projects involve solving complex problems where the solution is not always straightforward. Therefore, the job will be more than executing orders or following instructions. You are expected to use your creativity and we encourage you to be pro-active in sharing your ideas.
