Compliance & Regulatory Affairs Counsel - ASICS Europe

Job purpose
As Compliance & Regulatory Affairs Counsel you will support the business to grow and move forward in its chosen direction by ensuring regulatory risks are accounted for both on a strategic and operational level.  In addition, you will actively drive and contribute to the continuing development and implementation of ASICS’ EMEA Compliance and Risk Management Program. You will be the in-house expert for competition law, privacy & data protection law and/or anti-bribery law.

Position in the organisation
You will report into our Head of Compliance EMEA and will work closely with a variety of stakeholders including management, internal audit, legal, HR, operational and business teams. Your scope includes the EMEA headquarters as well as our local offices managing the operations in the EMEA region. In addition, you will work closely with your global counterparts.

Result fields
Your responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a trusted advisor to the business which depends on you for interpretation of relevant regulations impacting the business within EMEA;
  • Anticipating up-front potential issues related to business development, projects, strategy or products and presenting alternative scenarios or solutions to mitigate risks (e.g. selective distribution, retail and marketing strategies);
  • Actively drive company compliance projects (e.g. GDPR);
  • Contribute to the continuing development and implementation of the Compliance Program,  which will include:

                Risk assessments and due diligence (third party/country risk);
                Handling day-to-day business queries and issues;
                Manage whistle-blower reports;
                Acting as secretary to the Compliance Committee;
                Support compliance audits;
                Design and lead regional and local compliance initiatives, communication;
                Design and conduct class room compliance training to the business;
                Develop and implement policies, guidelines and tools;

  • Support (competition law) litigation or investigations (manage external counsel or competition economist);
  • Cooperating with and coordinating responses to regulators in relation to legislative changes (e.g. EU competition law/Ecommerce Sector Inquiry).

Job requirements

Knowledge and experience

  • Master’s Degree in (EU) Law;
  • 5+ years relevant work experience, preferably including experience in a mid to large size law firm in the EMEA region;
  • Solid experience in both implementing and managing legal compliance and working in a global multi-stakeholder environment;
  • Strong affinity and experience with EU law, including but not limited to competition law, privacy & data protection, anti-bribery;
  • Experience with ERM;
  • Good command of MS Office including Strong command of presentation tools like PowerPoint / Prezi;
  • Fluency in English is a prerequisite, additional language skill, in particular German, French, or Spanish are preferred.

Although previous in-house experience is not a pre-requisite, strong knowledge of commercial, competition and FMCG industry related laws, as well as good project management, negotiation and business development skills are highly desirable.

  • Ability to keep a focus and clear mind in a busy and dynamic environment with a great variety of tasks;
  • High level of integrity;
  • Willing to travel (10-15%).
